What Seperates Our Alano Club from AA and Clubs?

Alano Clubs and Alcoholics Anonymous serve related but distinct purposes within the recovery community. AA is a 12‑Step fellowship focused solely on carrying the message of recovery through meetings, sponsorship, and spiritual practice. It has no dues, no property, and no paid staff, and it exists only to help alcoholics recover. Alano Clubs, on the other hand, are separate nonprofit organizations that provide a safe, sober physical space where AA meetings can be held, but they are not AA themselves. Clubs typically manage buildings, utilities, memberships, social activities, and community events—things AA groups do not do. This separation protects AA’s traditions while allowing clubs to offer additional services that support recovery.

Changing Lanes Alano Club stands out because we’ve built something far more dynamic than a typical meeting hall. With a full four‑lane bowling alley, leagues, and free bowling for members, we offer sober recreation that keeps people connected long after the meeting ends. Members enjoy 24‑hour access, meaningful discounts, and a welcoming environment that encourages fellowship in our recovery community. Just as important, we maintain a strong financial boundary between the 12‑Step meetings and the club itself—meeting baskets stay with the groups, while club operations are funded through memberships, sales, donations, and fundraisers. This structure keeps us aligned with AA’s traditions while giving our community a vibrant, self‑sustaining clubhouse that supports recovery in many ways and levels.
